Like the majority of other Naive painters Françoise Guggenbuhl has preserved her ‘ child’s soul’. As such she delves into her imaginary world thus enchanting us with her witches and their magic pumpkins, or simply those little rabbits which delight Francoise so.

She uses Tempera ( ’Poster paint’) as her painting medium not oils. It being the classic and original medium of the past, even Leonardo Da Vinci used Tempera for the majority of his works as using oils had just been discovered, it wast he Dutch artist Jan Van Eyck who was the first to introduce and popularise oils in 1430. Inspite of the supremacy of using oils in artistic works, Tempera has luckily survived. Françoise Guggenbuhl ‘ has entered into the books of Naïve Art’, with her incredibly detailed precision, but above all with her narrative subjectivity, as much from her childhood memories albeit dreamed about with some regret but always with a touch of humour.

"Mother of three sons, all flown off to three corners of France !, I still live in my little village which has a population of just 400 people." .

"Nounouche,my cat is my most faithful companion !
Painting entered into my life by accident when I was approximately 40 years old … I have always painted in a Naïve fashion, it is deep rooted – I can’t do anything about it !".

"Since I started painting, it has become my reason for being …. My greatest happiness is to place my characters in a scene and to bring them to life…"

We have discovered another Toylander! Merci
Francoise! You color our world.

She  reminds herself and the world  of childhood innocence by way of her  paintings. Who better to feature on The Toylanders
website.
